With decades of combined experience in the field of orthopedic clinical practice and joint reconstruction surgery, Dr. Ivan Tomek and Helen Hollenbach PA-C focus on the treatment of degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) of the hip, including direct anterior approach total hip replacement. While we specialize in hip conditions, we often see patients with knee symptoms for consultation, due to the frequent overlap in hip and knee symptoms. Our practice does not offer knee replacement surgery at this time.

After years of using the posterior approach for hip replacement, Dr. Tomek adopted the direct anterior hip technique in 2010, and has been doing about 300 cases yearly.  He has published numerous research studies related to hip and knee replacement outcomes, has spoken internationally about joint replacement and healthcare economic topics, and has taught hip and knee replacement technique in various settings. He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, where he currently serves on the Patient Education Committee.

Anterior hip replacement is a same-day procedure that takes place at Green Mountain Surgery Center in Colchester, Vermont. Our muscle-sparing technique utilizes computer navigation and recovery protocols that are focused on encouraging early but safe activity and movement. A multi-modal pain management plan avoids the need for after-surgery opioid narcotic medication in nearly all patients.
